Sex 4 Breakfast

Happy Monday folks,

I Hope you had a great weekend & didn’t you didn’t clutch your imaginary pearls at the name of todays blog. Honestly it’s not what it looks like. (No need for a NSFW disclaimer!)

‘Sex 4 Breakfast’ is the provocatively titled new single by the talented K Stewart.  It’s produced by the Canadian production duo Banx N Ranx & is co-written by yours truly, the very dope emerging writer Grace Tither (Sigala) from U.K  & one of my favourite humans Adam Baptiste (Katy Perry/ Enrique Igelsias/Swedish House Mafia) from Sweden.

Che Pope, Grammy winning producer &  Fmr President of G.O.O.D Music (Kanye West)

I got to work with Che Pope from the US. Che is a grammy winner who worked of one of THE GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME (in my opinion) The mis-education of Lauryn Hill so I was super excited to write with him

The super talented Singer & writer Martin Mulholland

I also got to write with dope singer/writer Martin Mulholland & incredibly dope Korean Producer Called Deez. I Honestly  made the stink face (when the beat is just nasty) so many times. Listening to his music You would  think  Deeze grew up in a black church somewhere in America instead of Seoul Korea.

FINALLY

I finally did something i’ve been alittle scared to do for a long time, & thats make a youtube video. The crazy thing is, I actually love it. I’m that super subscriber, who learns everything from nerdy tech stuff to hair tutorials! (Not to mention I love a good family Vlog Jamie and Nikki is life).

I bought a point & shoot & a DSLR camera a while back & fear put the brakes on me posting any of the pics & footage I’d shot. I literally came to Norway purely with the intention of writing so I left my camera equiptment at home & headed to Gatwick.

YEAR OF YES

Ok so I’m doing the goodreads reading challenge & really trying hard to hit my target this year & I’m currently reading ‘Year of yes’ by Shonda Rhimes, (whom Im a huge fan of) & the weirdest thing happened when I got to page 79. The words

DITCH THE DREAM BE A DOER NOT A DREAMER

Hit me as if she had pointed a gun & fired the words directly at me herself. They aren’t particularly profound words, but they resonated with me. & I finally got up the nerve to do my first youtube video. It’s not the greatest quality as I was unprepared & shot it with the selfie camera but the point was just to do it. Now its done, I no longer fear it.

I have this bad habit I’m working on braking, but I build something up in my head until it creeps me out & haunts me. Today I conquered this youtube monster with the help of my gladiator in a suit Ms Rhimes, now i’m actually excited to start this experiment & conquer the next fear. Here’s to day 1 of a Year of yes!

The Four agreements

FOLLOW THE SIGNS

This book came to me, entirely via synchronicity. Suddenly everything I was seeing, reading online & conversations I was having, came around to this book. So not being one to fight the signs presented by the universe,  I went on Amazon with a quickness & purchased my copy. The book was just so effortless to read & was a complete page turner (It’s also a short read so that helps). You know when something just resonates with your spirit & you end up answering back at the book like you’re in church!…Yeah that happened.

Since then I have bought a further two copies for friends & will continue to recommend this as essential reading when you need that little spirit tune up. I can totally see myself revisiting this jewel, when I need it.

I was drawn to this book knowing it was drawing upon ancient wisdom from the toltec people of Mexico. My interest in South American sprituality stems from having travelled to Brazil many times to sing, but more so since my trip to Peru, to experience drinking  Ayahuasca with a shaman a few years back. (I’ll do a post about that trip actually). However you don’t have to be particularly religious or curious to reap rewards from this book.

My interest in ancient south american spirituality started when I travelled to Iquitos, Peru with my best friend (this is us, at the retreat)

The Four Agreements are:

1. Be Impeccable with your Word

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your Word in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

3. Don’t Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. Always Do Your Best                                                                                                                                  Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

I Recommend it

Not to over sell it, but I meditated after finishing it & was one of the best ones i’d had in ages. You know the saying hurt people hurt people…Well what I got a sense of peace from, was Don Miguel Ruiz’s ability to remind our souls that we don’t have to be in agreement with the abuse of ourselves, by ourselves or by others. I wholeheartedly recommend this book, & if you do pick it up, drop a comment & let me know your thoughts.

My Endometriosis Diagnosis

Hi,

so as I briefly mentioned in my last blog post,  that I was finally diagnosed with Endometriosis last month & took a few weeks off to research, process & make some changes.

My diagnosis came as a  complete relief, after more than 10 years of being sent for ultrasound scans, blood tests, & even being initially diagnosed with  PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Since I was a teenager I spent years of experiencing abnormally long periods, excruciating pain (during my cycle & also before it, during ovulation), which often left me feeling drained, anaemic, doubled up in pain & unable to concentrate. As well as making that time of the month a total burden on me, I also felt like a burden to my doctors. Now I feel completely vindicated & that it wasn’t just in my head.

ENDOMETRIOSIS

What is endometriosis?
It’s when the endometrium tissue that lines the womb grows outside of it. Growing in other areas like on the fallopian tubes, ovaries, bladder, bowel & in extreme cases can even spread to other body parts like the lungs. It’s a condition that  leaves you with chronic pain & some women also experience pain during sex, urination, or during bowel movements as well as stomach upset.

endometriosis-womb-diagramPrior to my diagnosis I had no idea about this illness & exactly how common it is. Endometriosis affects around 1.5million women in the UK & 5.5Million in the US alone. It’s crazy to know that a disease that affects so many women around the world can so often go completely undiagnosed. Even more frustrating is that symptoms can often be overlooked by doctors as Menorrhagia (abnormanly heavy period) & period pain.

TREATMENT

I still have more tests to undergo, but have spoken to my gynaecologist about possible treatment options. Endometriosis can cause infertility & there is no known cure for it, however doctors can prescribe hormone treatment like the contraceptive pill or IUD. A common procedure is laparoscopic surgery to cut out the tissue. I haven’t had children yet it has been pretty tough news to process, & Im not really trying to rush to surgery without first trying a holistic approach.

As you may recall from a previous post I decided to go vegan on boxing day, & I have really felt the benefits since then. Through eating plant-based, I’ve helped to minimise the pain & have even seen my cycle start to regulate alittle. Dairy causes inflammation & is a known agitator of the condition, so im super happy I listened to my body & cut it out. It really makes me wonder about the hormones & antibiocs the meat industry use & how they can cause such havoc in our bodies (spiritually & physically).

I meditate more frequently & have actively sort to minimise stress in my life. I’ve joined a gym & taken on a personal trainer as weight gain is a symptom & has been an issue for me. I’m devoting time to passion projects & making a point to express myself. I am a firm believer in our bodies ability to heal itself if given the right nourishment. It’s not just what we eat that feeds us so I’ve decided to take a proactive approach to healing.

DON’T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER

My Endometriosis Diagnosis

Sometimes we can feel as if we are demanding too much, & can be intimidated by medical professionals, but you must trust your gut. Especially when it comes to your health trust your gut & don’t take no for an answer. If you feel something is up consult your doctor & don’t be afraid to be persistent. In the UK it takes an average of 7.5 yrs before diagnosis, which could mean the difference between a healthy recovery & infertility  so speak up!

I found some links to a helpful endometriosis sites:

I really hope sharing my experience helps someone. Please comment on your experience & hit me up if you are going through this. Wishing you good health!
